Problems Bothering Me

Recently I’m in a low mood, and all of these are related to my present situation, my future and the confidence towards myself.

I think about my future a lot recently. My parents ask me whether I would like to be a teacher in the future. I like this job, and in several work experiences, my role as a teacher seems to be quite successful. But if I really make up my mind to be a teacher, then I should think about taking the entrance exam for Doctor’s degree, for a Doctor’s degree is the necessity to be a teacher. On this I couldn’t make up my mind. If I start working for a Doctor’s degree, then the chance for me to enter other work fields would be greatly reduced (That means if I find I’m not suitable for this job at last, I might end up in no one wants me to work for them.) A Doctor’s degree is too much for companies or government organizations. A teacher also means lots of research work, but I have no confidence in this, either. This also related to my recent situation. I felt less interests in my study compared to undergraduate days due to lots of reasons. One of the most important reasons is I felt frustrated with most of my teachers. Few of them could tell me something that I really care about or even think important. My father told me to study all by myself, not relying on my teachers. But I should say when I feel frustrated of my teachers, their courses lose lots of attractions they should have. Did I make the wrong choice one year ago?

Thus I feel really bad when I couldn’t decide. Maybe I think too much, as some of my friends pointed out. However, if I don’t know where to go, then I don’t know what should I do.

Choices are always hard. I guess the best you can do is go with your gut feeling.

Are teachers and professors the same thing in China? In America, if you want to teach college students, you need to get a doctorate and become a professor, but if you just want to teach high school (or middle school, or elementary school) students, you don't need a doctorate.

Also, I'm confused. You aren't studying to earn an undergraduate degree because you did that already, and you aren't studying to earn a doctorate, because you haven't taken the exam, so what are you studying for?

Oh, it is the same in China as in America, if you teach in college, you need a doctorate, but if you teach in middle school, Bachelor's degree is enough. I don't really want to teach in middle school.

Er, in China, there's a middle stage between undergraduate and doctorate, it is Master's Degree( What I am working for now). A master's degree is the basic demands of many jobs, for example, jobs in government, in a company, etc. But in China, if you decide to study for a Doctor's Degree, it means you would enter the academic world after graduation. I've heard that in America, you only have something like a master's program, but it's just the preparation for the doctorate. In China, a Master's can have nothing to do with doctorate if you are not interested in the academia.
